Dr. Christodoulides founded Novel Intelligence as a means of helping organisations achieve greater operational and financial performance. Novel Intelligence’s focus is on providing actionable and transformative data insights that enable management taking more profitable and less risky decisions. To be able to achieve this, we formed a team of scientists and innovation leaders that amalgamate data-science, research and forensic accounting expertise.

Kyriakos Christodoulides
Managing Founder
Dr Kyriakos Christodoulides is a data-scientist, a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) and the Director of Novel Intelligence.
Kyriakos’ multidisciplinary experience includes working as a data-scientist on procurement solutions for a leading AI organisation, SAS Software Ltd and as a forensic data analytics manager for the renowned forensic investigations group at Grant Thornton UK, LLP. He has a proven track record of delivering innovative data analytics services/solutions related to detecting and preventing irregular transactions. For example, by leveraging his research background in physics and mathematics he prototyped a novel solution that is used for benchmarking procurement risk and recovering false expenditure.
Kyriakos is passionate about continuous learning and personal development; hence he founded the London Business Bookclub.

Our Data Science Approach

Rules-based Systems utilise pre-set conditions that are based on a set of certain rules that are derived from subject matter expertise and business-specific knowledge. This approach uses the simple rule of IF-THEN and it is well-suited for identifying common anomalies such as duplicate information fields and round sum amounts.
Statistics and Statistical Modelling are used to capture expected trends and behaviours as well as anomalies i.e., deviations from the expected trend. Statistical modelling can be sophisticated and complex. We use methodologies such as regression analysis and Benford’s Law to assist with the prediction of expected behaviours and the detection of anomalous transactions.
Machine Learning. At Novel Intelligence, we utilise machine learning relying on both our Novel left and right sides of our brains to uncover complex and hidden behavioural patterns and anomalies. When appropriately informed and configured, ML algorithms help alleviate uncertainty and provide invaluable information that would otherwise be difficult to obtain. The use of supervised learning provides sophisticated outcomes that will answer the “How Much” and “How Likely” type of questions. Unsupervised learning is often applied as it enables us to understand the underlying data structure and identify datapoints with interesting properties and business significance.
